2. What colors and types of hair and skin can laser reduction treat?
The laser permanent hair reduction treatment can be performed on any type of hair or skin color.* However, hair color is an important factor in the procedure’s efficacy. Because the laser energy is specifically absorbed by the melanin, that is, the dark pigments within the hair follicle, the hair reduction treatment is more effective in darker colored hair. The effectiveness of the treatment in lighter hair colors such as red, blonde and gray, is reduced due to the lack of melanin in the hair follicle. To increase treatment versatility and effectiveness, the LumiMax PL combines the three most effective wavelengths for permanent hair reduction to achieve quick, visible results in all hair and skin types and colors.

4. Is the LumiMax PL safe?
Yes, the LumiMax PL is completely safe for any type of skin thanks to its last generation technology and advanced refrigeration system with sapphire crystal tip. The LumiMax PL ensures an even distribution of the energy and treats the hair follicle in a focalized manner, keeping the surrounding issues intact and eliminating the risk of burns. 5. What does the procedure consist of?
First the specialist will have a consultation with the patient to make a skin assessment and establish a treatment plan. He/she will also take pictures before and after the treatment series to prove its efficacy . A cooling gel is applied to the treatment are and then the specialized applicator is used to deliver light into the skin. The light energy is absorbed by the melanin, which is the pigment within the hair, causing the temperature to rise and destroying the follicle while also preventing further regrowth.
6. Is the procedure painful?
No. Thanks to its diode laser technology, the LumiMax PL treatment heats up the hair while keeping the skin intact, completely eliminating the risk of pain or discomfort.
7. How long does the LumiMax PL treatment last?
The treatment usually takes between 15 and 30 minutes, depending on the treatment area. For instance, it takes 1 minute to remove hair from the upper lip, 5 to 7 minutes for both underarms and 25 to 30 minutes for the legs.
8. Why is the LumiMax PL diode laser technology better than IPL technology?
While IPL delivers pulses of broad spectrum light with a range of many different wavelengths, the LumiMax PL’s diode laser delivers light beams at a specific wavelength, allowing a more focalized penetration of the energy and achieving the ideal level of absorption by the melanin. This selective, focalized absorption protects the surrounding tissues, eliminates the risk of pain, and removes hair in fewer sessions. 9. How many sessions are needed to achieve the desired results?
The permanent hair reduction treatment generally requires from 3 to 5 sessions, depending on the body area that is being treated. The time between sessions also varies according to the treatment area. In areas such as the upper lip, where hair grows very quickly, a period of 4 to 8 weeks is needed between each session. In body areas such as the back, where hair growth is slower, treatment sessions are performed every 12 to 16 weeks.
10. What is the pre-treatment care?
Avoid excessive sun exposure, tanning beds and self bronzers during the weeks prior to the first session and during the course of the treatment series.
11. What areas of the body can be treated?
The LumiMax PL uses a specially designed applicator to treat from the large areas such as legs, arms and back, to smaller areas such as the bikini line, the underarms and the upper lip. It also incorporates a small additional tip to remove hair from hard to reach areas such as nostrils and ears.
12. What does the post-treatment care consist of?
It is important to avoid sun exposure and sun beds during the 7 days following the treatment. We recommend using hypoallergenic makeup as well as a sunscreen lotion of minimum 30 SPF.
13. Is laser hair reduction recommended for any type of hair?
This treatment is effective and safe for any type of skin; however, it is more effective in dark hair. The specialist will first do an evaluation to establish the proper treatment settings and ensure the optimal effectiveness of the procedure in any type of patient.
14. What can be expected after the permanent hair reduction treatment?
There will be some redness in the treated area but this will disappear in a few minutes. The hair will remain in its place, and for about 10 days it will appear as if it is still growing but at a slower pace. The treated hair will fall off naturally around one to three weeks after, leaving the skin feeling smoother. At the end of the treatment series the LumiMax PL will have removed 90% if the hair.
